Cute outfit I tried to wear to the Quebic Comic Show

I decided to go casual for the Montreal Comedy Show in West Hollywood at the Comedy Store. It's starring two Quebecian (is that a word?) comics who are young, hungry and cute! Sugar Sammy, named “One Of 10 Rising Comedy Talents From Around The World” by the Hollywood Reporter, performs at the Comedy Store, with opening act, Daniel Tirado.

Sadly I'm an idiot went to the wrong comedy store in LA since I wrote down the wrong address. Thank goodness I'm cute to make up for my rare ditzy moments!

So I wore a pair of dark skinny jeans, a jade green silk tank with beading, black sweater shrug and a pair of opal earrings. I enclosed two shots so you can see the details on my tank and a pair of earrings I've had for years. I do love my accessories they really help to add a little something (texture, visual interest, contrast) to an outfit. Since I'm not a super flashy dresser but do I enjoy wearing outfits that compliment my body and coloring. This entire outfit was bought at Nordstrom Rack at a variety of locations and time.

Quebec in Hollywood Festival

Have you heard that from September 9 – 25, 2011 is the Quebec in Hollywood Festival?

They are celebrating everything from cuisine to art to music and everything in between that celebrates the French speaking province.

I attended the tasting the Grill in Hollywood’s Hollywood & Highland Center with Chef Jean-Pierre Curtat from the Casino de Montréal. They are serving his specially curated menu from September 13^th – 17^th as well as a special selection of wine and beer that compliments his food. You can try special drinks featuring Quebec liqueurs including Neige Apple Ice Wine, Unibroue Double Fermented Beers and Sortilege a maple infused whiskey at the Grill and Public Kitchen & Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel.

You can see Corno paintings influenced by Marilyn Monroe and bronze sculpture series called A Drop for Sharing by Margo Genest at the David Lawrence Gallery in Hollywood.

The festival will be celebrating the premier of IRIS, the Cirque du Soleil’s first resident show in Los Angeles. I haven’t seen the show so have copied the following information from their website. ‘This new production from Cirque du Soleil is a lyrical, fanciful, kinetic foray into the seventh art. Bringing together dance, acrobatics, live video, filmed sequences and animation, the show takes spectators on a fantastic voyage through the history of cinema and its genres, taking them into the heart of the movie-making process. The Comedy Club in Hollywood is having a show on September 15^th starring two talented comics named Daniel Tirado and Sugar Sammy who have gained accolades from around the world as artists and creative performers.

I am excited to attend the music event since I’m not familiar with most of their recording artists. They are having selection of artists who perform a variety of music to highlight the diversity of sound the Québec recording industry has to offer to audiances. It includes everything from jazz, classical, hip hop, alternative and world music. This diversification has also helped broaden and develop new audiences with exporting international artists that include hip hop artist Drake (Canadian). I'd been with my job for almost 4 years (got good reviews, team player, etc) and all of a sudden my manager called me into her office to say 'it wasn't working'. It threw me for a loop to say the least. She never gave any explanation other than she'd gotten a promotion and needed an assistant with 'different' skill sets. Urghh So I got transferred to another manager as a place setter till I found a new position since I was told I was no longer a good fit for the office. I've to adopt the philosophy 'one door closes .. another opens' since I'm a good employee. Hard worker, team player, no job to small, independent, friendly, professional, smart and LIKES to work. I've decided to take my hobby of social media sites and turn it into a business. I'm in the process of setting up a site, working with a camera team and looking for a photographer for professional photos. I haven't really allowed it to set in since I've been job hunting/creating projects since my last day.

I am so frustrated that the GOP, Tea Party and small minded people would rather see our country fail than for President Obama’s policies to succeed. At the same time these people say how much they love our country and say how the President isn’t American but really it’s about their hatred of change. The change in the demographics of our country, the way the economy is passing them by because of their lack of education and distrust of ‘different’.

This show sounds interesting but since it’s on ABC I am sure they will cancel it once I fall in love with the series. I mean really that’s ABC’s MO with every show I’ve ever liked on the network! Anyway back to my thoughts about this new modern take on a fairy tale. This show has classic fairy tale characters that have their memories removed and are living in the present. Hmmm I wonder if we will be seeing Rose Red and Rose White in a future episode.

You have to be living under a rock to now know about this show. It’s Stephen Spielberg’s science fiction drama about how human have destroyed earth with our polluting ways. To save humanity they have constructed a time machine to send a select group of people to live in the past with DINASOURS. In one way it’s AWESOME to finally have a weekly show on network TV where people will be eaten by a T-Rex or a giant crocodile but it looks like every episode will be super expensive to produce so I hope it finds an audience lightning fast. It looks like an OK show nothing that gets me too excited about since other than dinosaurs it’s not that original. Ehhh I’ll give it three episodes.

When I first saw posters for this Zooey Deschanel comedy I must admit to trepidation. Since it looked like a horrible premise and then I saw the first commercial. I fell in love with her zany character and the great chemistry of the cast. I’m really looking forward to the first episode and am sure it’s going to make me laugh till I cry. I must admit that it’s partly because her lack of dating skills/common sense is an awful lot like me when I see a cute guy a shriek to my friend’s hubba hubba!

Is the new drama mystery starring Sarah Michelle Gellar who stars as twins with a past. One is a stripper on the run and the other a rich wife with a dangerous secret. I’m a huge Buffy fan so am going to give this show the benefit of the doubt. Since it looks like one of those shows that have tons of dead ends, double crosses, twists and turns I’ll watch 5 episodes before deciding if it will be added to my DVR record list.

I am looking forward to this ensemble comedy since I do love a good laugh. I have to say that I’m a huge fan of Will Arnett and think he’s crazy funny. Having friends with a new baby is full comedic gold especially with the crazy friend who refuses to acknowledge the changing circumstance of FWB (Friends With Baby). It’s pretty close to what’s going on with my friends with people pairing up, getting married and starting families. So am sure this will keep me laughing like an idiot!

Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only one at 40something tofeel so out of sorts. I look back at myyounger self who was so confidant and passionate. Who knew what she wanted to do with her life,a career she loved and was dating.

Now I’m just treading water and feel like all the things Iwant to do have passed me by to be pursued by younger women who are taking myjobs. I hate to sound bitter but I’mreally frustrated that I’m an accomplished, smart, hardworking woman who’s lookingfor a job. I’m trying to createopportunities that use my talents of communications, style, personality and witto my advantage for a new career direction.

So I’m looking at the communication field which was my minorin college (so long ago) and advertising which was my original major before I switchedto Political Science (I really wanted to help people/make a change than Irealized it was full of disappointment and very little money).

I currently working with Tony and Camille who operate thecamera at various events I attend to interview people. I’m hoping that my great sense of humor andfriendly interview style will attract the attention of a media service thatwill either bring me on as contractor or FT with my team production team.

I’ve already done interviews at the First Los Angeles Tastefood event. I worked events in BeverlyHills and Hollywood with my team we got some great interviews with chefs andattendees. I’m looking forward to doinga series on the vibrant creative chefs we have here in Los Angeles. I’m also interested in learning more aboutthe ‘Farm to Table’ cooking philosophy that quite a few chefs believe in andfollow.

I’m planning on talking with up and coming chefs,established chefs, food truck operators, small restaurants, caterers and justlearning about food. I think that itwill be a great series as a lover of eating good food.

It’s sort of crazy but I was feeling frustrated about mycareer direction but even just writing about my new career plans gets me SOOOexcited! I just can’t believe that mymidlife crisis has just reignited my passion!

Well am looking forward to the end of August after leaving my job with Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Am feeling relieved that I'm no longer in my stagnate job and am forcing myself to make the change I've been talking about all year. Sometimes a regular paycheck is almost like a ball and change since it's hard to walk away but you know that the job isn't right for the person you have grown to become.

I had originally thought that I really wanted to work for a hospital but after four years with CSMC I realize it's not the industry for me. I really enjoy working at Amgen a few years ago so I thought that a hospital was a logical progression after working in the pharmaceutical industry but I was wrong.

So I am now looking for a FT job back at Amgen (if I get a job out their I'll move the commute is too hard from LA), with a few of the local Universities/Colleges in the area, Special Event Management and Sales. Onward and upward in my pursuit of a career that will be a great fit for my background and personality.

I have to be honest .. first of all I find men of all races attractive (chocolate brown skin of a man of African descent to bisque of a red headed Irish Man) but usually am attracted to Asian, White, European, Italian, South Asian, Middle Eastern and foreign men in general. But as a woman living in Los Angeles, CA it is DANGED competitive as HELL!!! It's the land of the 'Barbie' doll .. super skinny, super young, skinny and surgery enhanced big boobs and/or asses.

So I never got much interest from men after gaining a lot of weight after moving to LA and not eating healthy/working out/walking. But I've been working on myself for the past two years. I've lost over 50 pds with changing my diet, taking long daily walks and regularly working out at the gym. In addition I've changed up my super conservative style of dress and taken the advice of my dating gurus. Patti Stanger of Millionaire Matchmaker, Matt and Tamsen Fadal Titus (Matched in Manhattan) NYC Love Consultants, Steve & Joanne Ward of Tough Love, Patti Novak of Confessions of a Matchmaker, What Not To Do dating show and chatting with friends who are married/dating.

So accepted that I need to wear makeup, color on my lips (to show off my great smile), got Lasik (so everyone can see my glorious big brown eyes), wearing cute clothes that show off my assets (cleavage, small waist) and styling my hair. It's working! I notice men have started to approach and flirt with me. AND they are guys I'm interested in speaking with and dating!

I've learned to like myself as I am and not putting my life on 'hold' till I get more 'perfect). I know that right now I look really good. I'm getting closer to getting to my ideal dating weight and am pretty cute too!

I decided to wash my hair Thursday and do something different with my hair. I did a deep conditioner with the anti hair breakage deep conditioner and than rinsed my hair with cold water. I than used the hair strenghter oil in my scalp, divided my hair into sections where I put in the hair milk and curling pudding into each section before doing a two strand twist.

I wore my hair in twists on Friday and than took them out on Saturday since I don't like how my hair looks like in twists. I just don't have enough hair for it to look cool instead it really emphasizes how my hair is pretty thin. But that's why I went natural to make my hair appear thicker. See the photos of my hair ...

I got a cool makeup artist from Chicago who had FABOLOUS natural curls who was so fun and cool. She asked what feature I wanted to have pop and I said my big brown eyes! I left my eyes in her capable hands and she did an excellent job.

What she used was the black gel eyeliner on my top eyelash line, (on my lower lash line she used) the in Blue Noon & Eye Shadow Surf USA (Frost). On my lips was the in Good Lovin (light pink). It was a cool

Well as you saw from my earlier post I pretty much stayed on target today with my diet. I did have a snack of microwave popcorn instead of the ice cream bar that I wanted to eat. I'm sooo good!

I just had my dinner from Freshology of BBQ Beef (nice and tender with sweet tangy sauce) with Roasted Sweet Potatoes and veggies (corn, squash, lima beans, onion, bell pepper) with ice tea. All of that food for only 380 calories! AND I get to have a tiny desert which is how I was able to resist the siren call of haagan daaz milk chocolate ice cream bar!

So this is the second day of my being on my freshology diet and am feeling good about my healthy journey. I've been better about knowing what was are portions and have been putting thought into my grocery shopping. I think I'll be done with the program the first week of June so need to start thinking about my meal plans. I need to start looking for a low calorie recipe book. Something that will make my shopping easy with the recipes and a list.

So I am back on my Freshology Diet which is working wonders. I'm losing weight, feeling satiated and really enjoying the diverse offerings. My plan is to keep a journal with photos of the portions so I can replicate them once I'm back to eating my own cooking!

So for breakfast I had the Whole Wheat Pancakes with Whole Wheat Pancakes w/Mango Passion Fruit Coulis (fruit topping sort of chunky to add a zing of flavor) and at only 350 calories we CAN have pancakes just 2 silver dollar size!! lol As opposed to the big as plates smothered in butter and real maple syrup that I treat myself with at the Griddle on Sunset (BEST pancakes EVER). Next time I'll get the one pancake and split it in four pieces!

My lunch was really filling and satisfying too. It was the BBQ Chicken Quesidilla with Mango Salsa. The trick is that they used a wheat tortilla (very tasty) and had a little Jack Cheese (strong taste so you can get away with a little). Phew was scared I could never have my beloved burritos again but will have to practice portion control and of course skip the sour cream!

I've attached photos of my food frozen and heated so you can see what the portions look like. I hope that your enjoying my diet journey and will be with me when in June I start to cook my own food. Hmmm does Freshology have a cookbook????

I bought a ton of shea moisture products when Walgreens had the intro BOGO offer. I usually do a mini rinse in the morning with the Anti-Breakage Hair Masque Yucca & Baobab as I take a shower. I rinse it out and leave my hair dripping wet to begin my styling routine. First of all I spray my hair with reconstructive elixer (roots & hair), than I take the together the restorative conditioners (thicken hair & orig) and blend them to smooth through my hair. Just a pump from each bottle. I also take a small finger full of the happy to have curl enhancing smoothie to define my curls & keep it from frizzing up. I finish up with a glycerin gel to seal in the moisture and allow it to dry naturally. It leaves my hair so soft and curly. It LOOKS great and I'm really happy to have discovered this line. I'm happy to be using a small business owned by POC that uses nautural ingrediants AND is so moderately priced! I find that walgreens carries more of the products but charges $3 more than Target. I will next talk about the body products once I pick them up in the next week or so.

As you can see from my photos my hair looks super shiny, the curls are defined and NOT frizzy!!

Oh my gosh I just tried the StreetStrider this Saturday. It was fun but hard. I'm not the most coordinated person on earth and so it will be a major learning experience for me to be able to really use it for a major workout. I played on it for an hour and have the basics down but have to get the rhythm/movement down. But it's been added to my routine of working out since I've decided to workout more 'socal' style this year. I don't want to work out in a gym but instead to enjoy the summer sun this year so will be investing in TONS of sunscreen.

Oh my gosh I can't believe what happened tonight on Supernatural. The build up to the game changing surprise left me gasping! Oh my gosh ... CASSSS!! His character is stealing scenes every time he comes in with the dry deadpan delivery. Where's his Emmy???? Where's Supernatural's Emmy??? When will they recognize the great writing, cast, acting and over all direction of the show. I was a little worried with the change in the production team but they have made the show their own but keeping the elements that has kept me a fan since the beginning!

In case you don't know I haven't met that 'special guy' but have high hopes. I've been working out and getting in shape so am looking pretty good. I got some great ideas from the Setup Squad on Logo. I've already tested it just walking around during the day.

So I decided to go on match since my friend met her boyfriend on the site and he's just a really nice great guy. I have to get some new photos that look 'sexy' and cuter than the ones I have right now. Am debating on rather I should go see a movie on Friday night or go out. Will likely go out since seeing a chick flick is not going to get me the opportunity to meet some guys!

I was finally reading the Sunday NYT and decided to watch something on netflix. I put on Grownups with Adam Sandler. Wow this movie is awful but what truly kills me is that Hollywood keeps churning out these man child movies. Is this what people really want to see? I am keeping on track with my goals for 2011. Well the ones that I can control. I'm keeping on track with getting in shape. I'm working out with the trainers at Pink Iron every week EVEN when I'm feeling lazy I drag myself to the gym and SWEAT!!!! I'm finally letting go of my 'stuff' ie all the crap I collect and hoard in my closets. This past weekend I cleaned and sorted like a demon for hours in my apartment. I even went to the Container Store about some storage solutions. They were having a clearance on the shoe bins so I got a couple of boxes and sorted my shoes. I have a huge bag for goodwill of shoes AND clothes.

I'm still debating on rather I should try to have a garage sale with old clothes, artwork and shoes for a bit of cash for my vacation account. Hmmm bit of a quandary in that .. I don't like to deal with the dickering and having to sit in the sun all day. I've never been a garage sale sort of person.

Hanna Review (second try)

Hanna is a great action movie about a young girl raised in the wilds of Finland by her father Eric played by Erik Bana as a wild man draped in the pelts of animals he’s killed. He looks like a bit of a survivalist nut who’s taken his little girl to prepare for the ‘big one’. Instead as we learn as the movie progresses that they are in hiding from a murderous rogue C.I.A. agent named Marissa played by Cate Blanchett. The star of this feminist Bourne Identity action flick is played by Saoirse Ronan who was last seen in the period drama Atonement. This film is directed by Joe Wright who has directed period films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement as well as the Soloist. The film is as beautiful as his past movies but with a frenetic pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat filled with wonder at the lethal ability of this small pale wispy little girl.

Hanna goes from Finland to Morocco to Germany in pursuit of her arch nemesis Marissa. The woman her father has told her to assassinate in a kill or be killed scenario. As the film progresses you learn that Hanna is a very special little girl whose sweet mild demeanor hides the beating heart of a killer. As we watch Hanna grow from a sheltered girl whose entire being is to kill Marissa we realize that this hunter is also being hunted. She meets people along the way who show her kindness and friendship something that she’s never experienced while her father raised her to seek revenge.

One of the more poignant side stories is her meeting a happy go lucky British family and making her first friend. The emotions are almost overwhelming for Hanna who’s unable to process what is the ‘normal’ response from friendship to a first kiss. As she gets closer to her quarry her prey is one step behind her wrecking havoc amongst anyone Hanna has met.

It is an excellent film that is well directed and written, with strong performances from the entire cast. This movie is rated four out of five popcorn boxes, however be warned, it’s very violent.

quandary about right and wrong choices and their repercussions.

Hanna, it seems, is being raised by her father to be a self reliant woman that can do everything from hunt to protect herself from the big bad world. Of course the “big bad” in this film is a part of the plot twist that provides a big surprise for the viewer. Academy Award Winner Cate Blanchett plays Hanna’s nemesis, a ruthless CIA operative with an agenda of her own.

The film opens in the wilderness of Finland with Hanna trekking through the snow. As the film progresses we are made witness to the overwhelming nature of technology on someone who has never been exposed to our everyday society. Ronan plays this part wonderfully with a subtlety that makes this character come to life, you understand the choices Hanna makes and her motivations for them.

It is an excellent film that is well directed and written, with strong performances from the entire cast. I give this movie four out of five popcorns, but I have to warn you it is very violent.

I'm so excited that my Shea Moisture Hair products just shipped out from www.walgreens.com. I got a variety of products that will last me YEARS because they were having a BOGO (buy one get one) sale over the weekend to celebrate that Walgreens had just started to carry the Shea Moisture Hair Line. Walgreens seems to carry a more products on their website and since it was a GREAT sale. I bought all of my standbyes and a few new ones that I'm sure will be great for my hair.

I decided to take my sister's advice and wash my hair every morning and that apply product. I realized that it really helped with adding moisture to my hair so my curls are more defined.

I'm currently using the shea moisture retention shampoo, the volumizing conditioner and deep treatment masque. After my shampoo and conditioner combo I than use the hair milk and regular conditioner for leave ins and to create defined curls the smoothie. My hair is looking great with the new regimen and am hoping by summer it will have grown a few inches. I'll take a video this weekend of my hair routine.

Happy Monday! I had a fruitful weekend with errands, cleaning out my closet and the beginning of a major spring cleaning.

I want to live and experience life so am not going to let myself be held back by my fear of change and rejection. So I donated a bunch of my clothes and items that I'm not using. I'm happy that I forced myself to start to get rid of all the stuff that's around my neck like a anchor!

I've trying to not put myself on hold waiting for my life to 'begin'. I have to live my life as it is right now since daydreams aren't cutting it!

So I'm going to email the guy I like and tell him I like him and ask him out (eeek!). If he turns me down .. ah well at least I won't be paralyzed with fear of rejection and I'll KNOW what he thinks about me. It's sort of funny but I was chatting with a man last night and he said just tell the guy that I like him. Men aren't always good at reading clues/hints.

Wish me luck that it will work out for me.

Urghh my landlord drives me nuts!

I'm so ticked off. I got home and noticed that one of my locks were unlocked (I always lock both) and I thought that was weird. I walk in the apt and KNEW someone had been in my place. My bag had been moved, my large vase had been moved and my plug to my computer had been stepped on! I also notice that part of the floor had been removed. Don't they have to notify you that they are entering your apartment????

I'm going to call tomorrow and let them know that I expect to be notified if someone is coming into my apartment!

Looking pretty on a cool wednesday

Happy Wednesday Friends. I decided to give my contacts a break since my eyes felt awful yesterday after wearing them all day. I'm going to follow my doctor's suggestion of slowly getting my eyes acclimated to contacts. But most people didn't seem to notice that I had my contacts on but the few who did said that I had pretty eyes and that I looked nice. I do love compliments .. hint hint! Since I'm wearing my glasses today I decided to do a more dramatic makeup today since I'm not going to the gym tonight. Instead I'll either finally work out with my Wii or I'll go for a long walk and enjoy the brisk cool night!

My makeup today is my Aveeno Sunscreen (70 SPF) and Make Up Forever Matte Foundation (37007) as a tint (I dot on 4 dots of foundation with my sunscreen), Three Custom Color Concealer under my eyes (7) and to fill up my eyebrows I have Sephora Eyeshadow (Brown). I have on Ulta Eyeliner (Black) on my lids and my L'Oreal HiP makeup lines Bright Shadow Duo (Flashy) and Shocking Shadow Pigments (Exciting - 102). I lined the top of my lid close to my eyelashes with the Ulta Eyeliner, than the Turquoise shade on my lid and the cream on the crease of my eye. I took the HiP Shadow Pigments above the iris on my lid and below my eyebrows. On my cheeks is Make Up Forever blush (Red) on the apple of my cheeks and Clinique High Impact Mascara (Black) and a dense brown lipgloss (can't read the label). To set the makeup I have my Make Up Forever HD to set all of my makeup.

I'm so pleased with myself I went to Pink Iron for my semi private training. It was so hard core. I had to run up to Fountain and I tried but it was too much for me so I walked. Than I did sit ups, push ups and knee bends. It was a major work out and my knees were able to keep up so am pretty pleased with myself. We did so many sit ups that my stomach felt like it was going to cramp with my muscles having to work.

I was in their shopping tonight for lunch/dinner salad fixings when one of the staff told me that I hadn't closed out bill the last time I was shopping. So I said I'd check in with the manager on the way out. I spoke with the manager and it turns out I had been over charged by $40 so they credited my account!

Lucky day for me that the staff is honest and will fix mistakes!!!!

Fashionista Color Presso on lips

Another day another dollar in pursuit of 'beauty'. Today is a Monday and I have again tried a mix of new and old makeup for a new look. Today I started with the L'Oreal HiP Teal Kohl Eyeliner that I used to line the top and bottom of my eyes. I decided to try the L'Oreal HiP Bright Shadow Duo in Flashy (318). I put the light golden yellow cream color on my lid and the green color on my crease up to my eyebrow. I wanted my eyebrows to be a little dramatic so took Sephora Black Eyeshadow and filled them in a little. To really make my eyes stand out I finished with Clinique High Impact Mascara in Black (01) that really makes them look thick and long!

Shine Struck Liquid Lipcolor in Zealous

I wanted a rosy affect on my cheeks so used my bronze Aveda Cheek Creme in Uruku (bronzey reddish brown -- almost like rich earth/clay) on my cheekbones and than Sephora Body Paint (810) on the apple of my cheeks. The Body Paint has a pearly gold iridescence that really makes my skin glow.

I like my lips to be shiny but not too colorful so brought to L'Oreal Lip Colors to try out. The first picture is with the L'Oreal HiP Shine Struck Liquid Lipcolor in Zealous (260) it's almost a reddish peach. I than tried out my new L'Oreal HiP Color Presso in Fashonista (380) that is a very shiny pearly red (looks GREAT on me). This one got a reaction from TWO guys. Both said 'hi' and flirted with me. So will be wearing more brighter colors from now on! I think the combination of a great smile and bright lips is very appealing to the fellas!

I have photos of me with both lip colors so which one do you like best???

As you can see my hair is growing like a weed but is at that weird length where it's just ... well 'sproinging' in every direction! But I like the twists, coils and curls. They make me look AND feel unique!

I like to wear a mix of various makup lines that have enough pigment to look good on dark medium brown complexioned WOC (Women Of Color). I'm wearing Makeup Forever on my cheeks (Aqua Cream #8), Aveda Uruku blush, L'Oreal HiP Cream Eyeliner (Eggplant #960); Concentrated Shadow Duo (Cheeky #508) & Color Presso (Stylish #880) with Lancome Mascara (Black). I have the eggplant eyeliner on my lower & top eyes, I used the Cheeky eyeshadow with the rose color on my lids and the darker color on the crease of my eye and as blush the Aveda is on my cheekbones & the Make Up Forever Red on the apple of my cheeks. The lipgloss is clear with a hint of color so it will made my eyes stand out.

My hair is looking great! I got my curls with a deep conditioning rinse #Pantene and than #SheaButter Products (deep conditioner, hair milk & conditioner) with #KinkyCurly Hair Gel -- #naturalhair

Where you are trying to force yourself to truly 'see' yourself. It's not you it's me ...

I'm trying to feel good about myself. To accept myself imperfect as I maybe and to stop comparing myself to other people since I always come up short.

2010 was such a hard year with my grandparent's dieing months apart, my trying to pay off the credit card debts my parent's charged in my name and just keeping my head above water.

My goals for the year is to keep working out so that I can be healthy, to try and meet a great guy, pay off my personal debts and my parent's debt in my name.

I just finished watching the President's address to our nation and I was impressed. I loved that he is talking about reinvesting in our nation, new industries and education. President Obama is correct that the old way is gone forever. Being able to get a good factory job as a high school dropout or graduate. We need to invest in modernizing out school system as well as how we educate our teachers.

I noticed the that Republican Boehner didn't look pleased with all of the points that President Obama made. I think a bit of sour grapes since President Obama hit on all the high points they wanted to score on but he stole their thunder.

OMG (Oh My Gosh) this year is passing by so quickly that I feel caught up in a whirlwind. No time to catch my breath! It's all I can do to keep up all that's going on in my life.

My new meetup group, business venture (online marketing/event planning), working out (4 times a week), Junior League Los Angeles (on new committee) and just staying on the right path (being a good person, making good friends, open heart to love).

I've been remiss

I'm over the diet hump I was on after my yearly visit with my doc. She said I'd only lost 2 pounds since I'd seen her last (6 months ago) and it really upset me. I've been hitting the gym strenously for 3 - 4 times a week for about an hour. I've been eating healthier (less sugar, late meals, etc) and it felt like it was all for naught.

So I pigged out for the last 2 weeks on cupcakes, pizza, pop, fries and sandwiches. But a complete miracle happened. A pair of jeans I'd bought around Christmas that were 2 sizes too small somehow are now fitting! I'd gotten them as an incentive/reward for when I get smaller.

So now think that I'm firming up and losing weight slowly so no more upset eating! Instead I'm going to think of it as a marathon. Slow going but crossing the finish line will be so satisfying!

It's taken a year

but I am finally in the swing of things at the gym. I go at least 3 times a week and it shows. I'm losing weight and feel healthier 'lighter'!

I try to take the Step Class 2 times a week and am now able to keep up with everyone! I feel so good about sticking with my goal last year of getting in shape. I try not to think of a ideal 'weight' but instead focus on being healthier and able to keep up with friends (walking, hiking, etc).

I also seem to be attracting guys! I can't figure out if since I'm more confidant about my body that I'm meeting men or if since I'm losing weight more are just more interested.

I think it's a combination of a more self confidant woman that is chatting with more people (men and women) and since dating is a numbers game I am increasing my chances to meet a great guy!

Almost back to work

I'm really focusing on positive changes for 2010. I spent the weekend working on updating my wardrobe and cleaning my apt. Wow I can't believe how much stuff I have after only being in LA for about 8 years. Urggh such a pack rat!

But it's kind of good to go through all my things so I can get rid of my old life and memories that kept me stuck in a 'holding pattern'.

I think the biggest change I'm making is that I refuse to put my life on hold any longer. I'm going to live my life since I want to enjoy myself. So out goes stuff that I'm holding on to because of the associated memories. Toss stuff I 'plan' to repair/fix that I never get to fixing. Donate all the clothes, shoes and stuff that I have & don't need!

I plan to be all ready for the year by 2010 with an apartment that is ready for new memories and a bit of decorating to brighten it up.

I hope that 2010 is a continuation of all the positive things that happened last year. I am still happy with my company/job/department, am working on getting in shape and am focused on my interior self (exercise of mind and body).

My goals are to keep busy with my JLLA commitments, going to the gym a minimum of 3 times a week, cooking more to control my weight, make new friends and to date. I will be able to start to pay off debts by the end of February after taking care of a few unexpected emergencies.

All in all if I keep my mind on my goals I will make major changes in the coming year

I'm happy to say that 2010 looks like it will be a great year for me with lots of changes. The big one is that I kept my resolution to eat healthy, exercise, diet, focus on making myself over inside and out. It's been work but I've lost almost 50 pds this year! I feel better about myself since I'm focusing on my positive attributes and abilities. I'm keeping busy with LA Junior League and expanding my circle of friends.

I hope that everyone focuses on just 2 or 3 new year resolutions that you can attain and will be positive for the new year.

To Fellow Health Care Reform Supporters,

While attending Congressman Adam Schiff’s successful town
hall meeting last week in Alhambra, CA, I made observations of several
important tactics that were used to keep the meeting under control
and out of the hands of right-wing fringe groups and those fanatically
opposing any health care reform.

If you know of any Congressmen or Congresswomen holding
such town hall meetings you may want to pass these suggestions along to
them.

1) Hold the meeting outside in a large area. There can be no complaints about not getting into the meeting and having the right of free speech abused. Also, an outside venue dilutes screaming and yelling, including bullhorns. Even with a large crowd there were 3,000 at this meeting, so far the largest regarding health care reform the noise gets diluted.

2) Pre-printed signs, those printed off the Internet or professionally, are much easier to read. They don’t need to be large, but neat & easy to read, front and back. Keep the message simple. Avoid clutter. Oversized signs are difficult to hold, so keep them of moderate size. If they are too heavy, people get tired of holding them. Also, with continuity in the signs it is easy to see where like- minded people are gathering.

3) Plenty of security. There were 80 policemen scattered around, as well as on the rooftops. They moved about in pairs and were easy to find.

4) The stage was quite high. This took away the intimidation factor of
getting in the face of the speaker. The panel sat behind draped tables, back from the crowd, which allowed them to look out and down over the crowd. There was also a dais the moderator stood behind putting him even higher above the crowd. Policemen surrounded the stage so no one could rush the stage or jump up on it and try to take over the meeting or create havoc.

5) There were enormous sets of loud speakers on either side of the
stage as well as huge stage lights. The loud speakers allowed the Congressman and panel members to continue to talk even when there was
jeering and yelling. The loud speakers were much bigger than any voices on the ground.

6) This factor was huge. No one in the crowd was ever allowed to have
a microphone. Detractors are told to get to a microphone as quickly as possible, using it to disrupt and/or take over the meeting. The panel took questions for almost an hour, and anyone wanting to ask a question had to line up in front of the stage. They had to tell the moderator their question, who in turn repeated it into the microphone and directed it to the proper person on the panel. Taking this power element out of the hands of potential disrupters was especially effective and frustrating for them.

My response: I was greatly offended by the segment called 'Great Hair Style or Exercise? Solving the Dilemma' aired to discuss black women and hair/exercise. So I wonder what about the fat white/asian/hispanic/etc women AND men in America that are overweight? Is it because of their desire to confirm to the American Beauty Standard of Hair? Or is it just the nappy black ones?

Black hair isn't 'ugly' and to say that some people are fat is because of hair is stupid. Some people don't like to exercise, in the African American community the ideal body isn't that of a prepubescent boy and some people are 'ok' with themselves.

You should be ashamed of yourself for this slam on women in general and black women in particular.

Star Trekkin, BABY!

I saw the film at a screening in LA Arclight on Tuesday night. IT BLEW MY MIND!!! It's a reimagining (made up word) of the Star Trek Mythology and it was great.

The selection of the cast, story line, AWESOME plot twists, introduction, random cameos and the design of the ships. I don't want to give away anything but I am a TRUE Star Trek Fan (seen all the shows, movies, gone to conventions, Met Mrs. Roddenberry).

It has a lot of details for people who aren't fans but the pace is quick and lively. The writing is good and the cast good/solid. I love the 'trueness' they kept with the characters mannerisms but the modern updates kept it fresh for me.

I enjoyed it so much I plan to see it on Saturday too!

New daily goal

I've always tried to smile or at least say hello to one person a day BUT now I've decided to really step up my dating. So I'm going to flirt with men more and try to seem more 'available'.

My goal will be to strike up a conversation with at least one man a day. I read the Steve Harvey dating book (GREAT read and quite insightful) and it's given me some good ideas of how to interact with men. I've always been a 'go with the flow' type of woman who tried to be 'understanding' about behavior I didn't like/agree with but now I realize that if I want a top quality guy I have to not compromise.

So I want a guy who's my equal. A person happy with his job/life, professional, college educated, attractive, good personality, nice, honest, no game playing and someone with common interests/life goals.

Now I just have to figure out where these men are in LA!

This has been the worst year for my allergies EVER! Am I the only one to notice that when you go to the drugstore the pharmacist encourages you to buy the medicine on the shelf? Really do I look like I'm a meth head? I'd have to have horrible teeth and be skinny as a rail (obviously I never miss a meal).

It's a bit annoying that I'm empacted negatively by drug using idiots. In my opinion drugs should be legalized and taxed to all get out! It would be a huge boon to the economy and the drug usage taxes could be used for programs geared towards users. I don't do drugs so why should my money go towards programs to stop people from doing what they want.

Apt hunting -- Mid Wilshire Edition

Are they on CRACK??? I can't believe how much these people want to charge to live on Wilshire. Cheapest I found for a 1 bedroom was $1500 a month. I can literally live a block from my job in Beverly Hills for that amount AND have 2 bathrooms. So it looks like I'm going to be a 90210 posth type of woman in the near future. Hmm so that means I'll have to be a bit snotty and speak with my 'posh' voice when saying that I live in the BH (that's how we say it .. the BH (all caps))

Wow I have to admit surprise that all of the Republican Wedge Issues that would have blown President Obama and other candidates out of the water are not working.

I believe that the reason is that time has passed them by but they are still stuck in the Reagan Era. That time has passed because those voters are getting older and that population is shrinking. Instead the current generation of new voters are better educated, have the internet to expose them to different ideas and more diversity in their life (gays, mulitcultural, different class backgrounds, more movement within the USA, different career paths).

Well I joined my gym in January and have been going semi regularly (min 2 times a week). I recently got a trainer that seems to be helping with motivation and just forcing me to really up my excercise routing.

I'm feeling a lot better than I have in a long time. I know a HUGE part of it is my job at CSMC. IMy job has always been a huge part of my identiy. It's about my feeling independent, able to take care of myself and a job that fits in with my 'life' philosophy.

Now all I have to do is lose 100 pds (yikes!) and I'll be one happy healthy person!

I hope that the year is well for everyone (well the start). I had a good NYE a bit more expensive than I had budgeted but pretty nice.

I went to supper at Rush Street with Donna and did a little people watching. We brought in the New Year at the Culver City Karaoke Bar called 'BackStage'. The BEST deal in town it was FREE to get in and NO reserved tables! A great diverse crowd of friendly people and CHEAP strong drinks.

My NYE Resolutions 2009

Get back in SHAPE and join a gym near my office
Go to the gym or exercise for 1 hour a day
Do well at my job that I love so that I can get a raise and a promotion!
Save money to buy a 'new' (to me) car -- 2005 or 2006 Acura RSX
Meet new people and make add friends to my social circle
Meet a nice guy to date (hmmm ... might be out of my control) but at least have a open heart to love
Take a needed vacation sometime this year
Go to Comic Con 2009 and stay at a decent hotel close to the action!

As you can see they are very reasonable and should be easy to do since I joined JLLA last year and have made new friends already. I know that my job is going well and am looking forward to my review (hope for raise).

So the latter half of last year improved by leaps and bounds. It started with leaving Spherion (as a recruiter) and joining CSMC. I finally got over my infatuation with SP and am finally ready to meet someone to date (after licking my emotional wounds after the horror of SP/JD).

Meetup type of weekend

I spent my weekend with my meetup group. Saturday bowling at Pinz in Studio City -- very fun but NOT cheap $14 to play (1 round of bowling with shoes). Sunday was brunch in Silver Lake very cute place but $10 for 2 eggs with mushrooms and 3 triangles of toast +++ $4 cup of coffee WTH!!! Way too expensive for what you got.

Of course it turned out OK since I think a cute guy was smiling at me and I strongly suspect he was straight! Wahhooo get out of WeHo girls if you want to meet a straight man.

WHY must I have a total nutbag living in the apt above me? I've been here almost five years and have had to deal with this woman for the past year. It's making my once happy abode not so happy. She yells at me, screams, keys my car, tells me to move, has her loser abusive boyfriend tell me to move and my landlord says it's a 'personal' issue. It's a personal issue since she won't leave me alone. URGHHHH
